Studying abroad is something that all college students should get to experience in their undergraduate career. It’s truly a once-in-a-lifetime endeavor to study abroad in Europe, to study in Morocco, to study abroad Australia or to be in any study abroad location around the world.
Unfortunately, not all students can afford to join a study abroad program and to pay for the expenses attached to it. That’s why study abroad scholarships, like the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship, are so great! These scholarships allow students to travel to diverse countries and form a better understanding of foreign cultures, language and education.
What is the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship?
Here are a few facts about this amazing scholarship for study abroad:
- Was established by the International Academic Opportunity Act of 2000 (which authorizes the Department of State to establish new grant programs for undergraduates to participate in study abroad programs)
- It is awarded to students that are receiving college student financial aid in the form of Federal Pell Grants
- Awards $5,000 each semester to deserving students
So, is this study abroad scholarship too good to be true? Apparently it’s not because over 600 students received it for their Spring 2009 semester!
And students like Senior Ebony Thorne can attest to its validity. She received the international study abroad scholarship last year and was able to travel to Botswana, Africa. She said it was an amazing experience that never could have happened financially without the help of the scholarship.
So, now that you know that there are financial aid resources like study abroad scholarships, grants and fellowships out there, are you ready to sign up for a study abroad program?
