This year 21 Georgia State University business students traveled to study abroad in Brazil and to study in Argentina to gain insight into the economic trends of Latin America.  The students were part of Georgia State University’s Mack Robinson College of Business, which encouraged the students to learn both Latin business practices and to experience the beauty of the culture.

This study abroad South America program is in its 11th year, and each year is more exciting for business students because they continue to learn about the changing economies of Brazil and Argentina.

    New Places, New Faces

The business students boarded a bus each morning and visited two Latin American businesses each day to learn more about economic trends. So, what were some of the places that the GSU business students visited?

    Here are a few:

    • Globant - Students visited this software development company that was founded by CFO Guibert Englebienne with only $5,000.
    • Argentina’s National Institute of Technology -Organization that provides product research to entrepreneurs and consumers.
    • Central Bank of Argentina - Argentina’s main bank whose goal is to inform citizens about inflation, deflation and lending practices.
    • Rio de Janeiro’s American Chamber of Commerce - Told students that government corruption and poverty would be improved by an increase in foreign investment.
    • Magnifica Cachaca Farm- One of the top distilleries in Brazil.

Overall, the GSU business students learned a great deal about Latin American businesses and came back to the U.S. with new outlooks on economic growth. It was exactly what the professors hoped for, and they were happy that the students had fun doing it!
