Many students get to spend a summer abroad or an entire semester abroad, but did you ever think that they would spend all 4 years of college in another country?
Apparently this is the new trend for American students who are going straight from high school graduation to attending college at schools like the University of St. Andrews in Scotland.
It definitely has something to do with international recruiters who are scouring American colleges looking for well-qualified students who can diversify their campus.
Why study abroad?
So, why should you get your education from another country?
Some of the benefits of going to college abroad:
- Tuition is less than most top private U.S. universities
- More likely to be accepted abroad than in top U.S. colleges
- International experience and foreign language study
- Different course schedules and university activities
Of course there are also drawbacks to going to school in another country:
- Homesickness
- Language and cultural barriers
- Bigger classrooms and less individual attention from teachers
If you decide to study abroad just be aware of the transition of coming from an international university to getting a job in America. Just make sure that employers are aware of your experience. Most likely they will be very impressed with your college experiences and your world travels.
